About the recording: "Moving On" is a San Francisco Boys Chorus CD that was recorded in 2001 at the acoustically stunning Saint Ignatius Church in San Francisco. In it, Michael sings in one solo number and three trios, as well as in many ensemble selections. The solo is the Benedictus from Haydn's "Little Organ" Mass and the three trios are from Mozart's The Magic Flute. The CD was recorded in 2001 immediately following the very successful SF Opera production of The Magic Flute and features the same trio of boys that sang the trios in the production. Michael sings the top part.

Of the SF Opera production,  Lesley Valdes of the San Jose Mercury News wrote,

"....Exceptionally poignant was the focused intensity of the Three Boys (Ryan Irwin, Bryan Jolly and Michael Bannett, my favorite), the most persuasive singing-acting from boy sopranos that I've encountered in a live performance."

For those with slow (modem) connections: If you have a 56k or slower connection, it is best to click on the "Lo-fi" samples since they will play without interruption after a short "buffering" time.

(Zum Ziele führt dich diese Bahn) (To your goal leads this path)
....Drum höre unsre Lehre an:  ....Therefore, listen to our lesson:
Sei standhaft, duldsam und verschwiegen. Be steadfast, patient, and remain silent.
TAMINO Ihr holden Kleinen, sagt mir an  You gracious little ones, tell me
Ob ich Paminen retten kann? If I can save Pamina?
Dies kundzutun steht uns nicht an;  To tell you this is not appropriate for us;
Sei standhaft, duldsam und verschwiegen.  Be steadfast, patient, and remain silent.
Bedenke dies: kurz, sei ein Mann!  Reflect on this: In short, be a man!
Dann, Jüngling, wirst du männlich siegen!  Then, youth, you will manly win!
Dann, Jüngling, wirst du männlich siegen!  Then, youth, you will manly win!
Seid uns zum zweiten Mal willkommen,  Be welcome for the second time,
Ihr Männer in Sarastros Reich.  You men, into Sarastro's kingdom.
Er schickt, was man euch abgenommen,  He sends what was taken away,
Die Flöte und die Glöckchen euch. The Flute and the Bells, back to you.
Wollt ihr die Speisen nicht verschmähen,  Unless you want to scorn the foods,
So, esset, trinket froh davon. So, eat, drink happily of them.
Wenn wir zum dritten Mal uns sehen,  When we see each other for the third time,
Ist Freude eures Mutes Lohn.  Joy will be the reward for your courage!
Tamino, Mut! Nah ist das Ziel.  Tamino, courage! Near is the goal.
Du, Papageno, schweige still,  You, Papageno, remain silent,
Still, still, schweige still!  Still, Still, remain silent !

Bald prangt, den Morgen zu verkünden  Soon gleams, to announce the morning
Die Sonn' auf goldner Bahn,  The sun on its golden way,
Bald soll der Aberglaube schwinden, Soon shall superstition disappear,
Bald siegt der weise Mann.  Soon the wise man wins.
O, holde Ruhe, steig hernieder,  O gracious peace, descend here
Kehr in der Menschen Herzen wieder,  Return to the hearts of people,
Dann ist die Erd' ein Himmelreich,  Then is the Earth a heavenly kingdom,
Und sterbliche sind Göttern gleich,  And mortals are immediately Gods.
Und sterbliche sind Göttern gleich,  And mortals are immediately Gods.
Doch seht, Verzweiflung quält Paminen!  But see, despair tortures Pamina!
Wo ist sie denn?  Where is she then?
Sie ist von Sinnen,  She is losing her senses,
Sie quält verschmähter Liebe Leiden,  She suffers scorned love's sorrows,
Laßt uns der Armen Trost bereiten.  Let us prepare comfort for the poor one.
Fürwahr, ihr Schicksal geht uns nah Indeed, her destiny is dear to us.
O wäre nur ihr Jüngling da!  O if only her young man were here!
Sie kommt, laßt uns bei Seite gehn,  She's coming, let us stand aside,
Damit wir was sie mache sehn,  So we can see what she does,
Damit, damit wir was sie mache sehn.  So, so we can see what she does.
PAMINA Du also bist mein Bräutigam?  [to her dagger] You then are my bridegroom?
Durch dich vollend' ich meinen Gram.  Through you I complete my sorrow.
Welch dunkle Worte sprach sie da?  What dark words did she speak there?
Die Arme ist dem Wahnsinn nah…… The poor one is near madness….
